| In Buddhism, a mandala is
a geometric representation of the
spiritual
universe; a sacred space; a place or point that contains an essence,
(paraphrased
from Mandala: The Architecture of Enlightenment, by Denise
Patry
Leidy and Robert A. F. Thurman, Shambhala Publications, Boston, MA,
1997).
I have long felt an attraction to the symmetrically arranged squares
within
circles that make up the basic structure of mandalas. Below are the
mandala
paintings I have produced that combine the geometric structure with my
spiritual universe: the Adirondack wilderness landscape. My
'architecture
of enlightenment'. For an internet reference page on mandalas, click HERE. |
